With no quick solutions to the credit crunch and the knock-on effect on the housing market, it is time to make the most of what you have in your home.

With Plasti-kote spray paint, you can get a new look and feel good about recycling rather than buying new. Odd bits of MDF can be transformed into a blackboard with Plasti-kote Chalkboard paint. Shabby vases, ornaments and picture frames can be sprayed one of the 60 colours from the Plasti-kote Super range of spray paints to add an accent to any room for less than the price of a couple of drinks down the pub.

Kitchens can benefit from a complete make-over using Plasti-kote Cupboard Colours and for a fraction of what a new one would cost. This kitchen was transformed with some new curtains, tablecloth and some cans of Plasti-kote spray paint. For a budget of under £500 we created a whole new kitchen. More than half of the budget went on the gorgeous Vanessa Arbuthnott fabric but you could easily go for budget fabric from Ikea or one of the many end-of-line fabric warehouses across the country.

This is how we achieved the makeover using Plasti-kote Cream Cupboard Colours and five complementary Plasti-kote Super colours:

- Dirty white kitchen cupboard doors were sprayed with Plasti-kote Cupboard Colours in Cream. The door knobs were sprayed with Plasti-kote Super Butterscotch and Everglade.

- Old honey pine chairs were primed first with Plasti-kote White Primer and sprayed with Super Butterscotch, Dusty Jade, Everglade and Alpine Green.
- The garish placemats were given a new lease of life using Plasti-kote Super Butterscotch with simple spots painted on using Plasti-kote Fast Drying Enamel paint in Vanilla. Three vases from Ikea costing £1.45 each were sprayed with Plasti-kote Super Butterscotch and Warm Grey.

- The three feather canvasses were created by spraying each one with Plasti-kote Super Dusty Jade, Everglade and Alpine Green. The feathers were then painted freehand using Plasti-kote Fast Drying Enamel paint in Vanilla. The large chicken canvas was sprayed Plasti-kote Super Everglade and then a stencil was cut to mimic the chickens in the fabric, and the comb, beck feet were sprayed with Plasti-kote Super Butterscotch.

- Nothing works better on wicker chairs than Plasti-kote Spray paint and an original Lloyd Loom chair costing £40 which had suffered a bad paint job was sprayed with Plasti-kote Super Everglade. The occasional table, which had been banished to the shed, was sprayed in Plasti-kote Super Warm Grey as was the tray in the kitchen.

- Plasti-kote Super spray paint works really well on glass or ceramic and the decorative bottle was sprayed with Alpine Green and the allium heads, which will last forever, were sprayed with Plasti-kote Super Warm Grey. The old ceramic table lamp was sprayed with Plasti-kote Super Butterscotch.

- Ornaments, the lids on the storage jars, the heart hooks, the wire spice and storage racks, were sprayed in either Plasti-kote Super Everglade, Alpine Green or Dusty Jade.
